What were they thinkin!

We have been hearing all across Minnesota that a BLIZZARD was coming our way, starting this morning and not ending until tomorrow some time. Visibiltiy was diminished worse then in this picture, as I waited for the bus, with the kids today. I said, why are they even having school? I said, I should keep you kids home today....I should have followed my gut! It is getting really terrible out and the wind is just starting to pick up....JOY!

School is letting out 4 hours early, so that is around 11:00 ish, but I feel that even closing at 11:00 ish, is going to give them a "run for their money". Some have already let out as early as 9:00 am. Some had a two hour late start, which was smart! It let them see what the weather was going to do and then they could just cancel it, as District 241 should have done!

Last school year during a blizzard (when school should have been canceled from the get-go), I waited for over 2 1/2 hours for my kids to get home on the bus, in a blizzard and no one and I mean NO ONE should have been out driving in it. I commend the bus drivers for having to drive in such horrible conditions. So today, I am very frustrated and this leaves me thinking, when in the whole area, there is NO DRIVING ADVISED and WEATHER ADISORIES all across the board, why would District 241 have school today? What were they thinkin?

So, now at about noon-ish, I will get to wait for probably about 2 hours (give or take) worrying, wondering and waiting if my kids will make it home safe. I should have followed my gut and kept them home, where I knew they would be safe. Stay warm and have a good day. ~Tonya

Here in Alabama, if the weatherman predicts a snowflake, schools and business close and bread and milk disappear from supermarket shelves. We don't mess around with snow here. Of course, we hardly ever have any snow either.

What crazy awful weather we are having and I am NOT looking forward to the cold snap, but I cannot believe that they didn't cancel school!! Next time please follow your gut and keep them safe and warm at home. I know they will make it home safe, but I feel for you all today!

Here's wishing for an early spring and an end to the snow and cold. Stay warm and hope you all have a wonderful week anyway.

Hugs & smiles, alba

Jeepers! Sometimes these School Districts (or the choices they make) just boggle the mind!!! I agree, "what were they thinkin?"

I know it's hard...but try not to worry too much...they'll get home safely!

I'm sendin a prayer up for the bus drivers... who are no doubt thinkin the same think you are!!

Oh goodness Tonya...I will keep them in my prayers for a safe trip home.

Schools are always so stingy with those snow days!!

Get some hot chocolate ready for them when they come in the door!

Stay warm..snuggle down for the afternoon with the kid and enjoy the blizzard.

Take care

I feel for you girl..It wasn't suppose to be bad here in Faribault but it is snowing pretty good...Another problem caused by the schools not closeing is the DD clients have to go to work because the work centers can't close unless the schools does...That means people are out driving 30 miles or more to transport clients home, putting everyone in danger...Been there done that....
I hope by this time the children are home safe and sound...Will say a little prayer for thm...
Hugs

I feel for you Tonya. It's not fun at all worring about your kiddo's when the weather is bad just wanting them home safe and sound with you. shame on the school for putting them and the bus driver at risk like that one more added day in the spring is much better then having people out on the roads when the weather is that bad thats for sure .I imagine they will be getting a great big hug from mom when they get home today and a nice warm cup of cocoa :)

Hugs

I wish I had an answer for you. Sometimes I think the people who make the rules don't have to live by them! They must not have their most precious children involved in this hazardous activity! Sure hope things have turned out well for you!

Our school was surprised by a storm a few years ago (as was the weather service and the entire community) and they had to feed and entertain a building full of students they couldn't get home/their parents couldn't get to the school to get the children home. Parents freaked and the kids thought it was a great party except for the little ones and they needed extra support. They tend to close on the safe side of things now.

Hope you have a safe night!!

Thank you so much to all of you gals...

for your kind words, your comments and your thoughts and prayers.

They made it home safely...a little late, but safe.

It has tapered off a bit, but we are still under advisories and where we are located, we are on the border where the blizzard is headed.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed, that the wind does not kick up, like it is suppose too.

Hugs to you all,
~Tonya
